Claude Bucheit, age 90, of Decorah, IA, died on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 23, 2017, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 22, 2017 in the basement of St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main Street, Decorah, IA and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Monday morning.

Claude Hubert Bucheit was born on August 5, 1927 to Alphonse and Olivia (Schneberger) Bucheit in rural Winneshiek County. He attended school through eighth grade. Claude started farming with his family after school on the family farm near Ossian, Iowa. Claude was married to Gretchen Willson on September 28, 1954 at St. Agnes Plymouth Rock Catholic Church, rural Burr Oak, IA. Together they lived in Ossian until they moved near Decorah in 1962. Claude farmed in Winneshiek County until 1978 at which time he went into the asphalt construction business. He also mowed lawns and dug out highline poles. Claude and Gretchen also owned and operated the Highlander laundromat until retiring in 2000. Claude loved to play cards, make horseradish, play pull tabs and spend time with his friends down at the Your Place Bar in Decorah. He also enjoyed going for walks and taking Sunday drives. Claude loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Claude is survived by his four children: Alyn (Lou Ann) Bucheit, Decorah, IA; Claudette (Marty Hess) Bucheit, Onalaska, WI; Jenny (Gary) Klotzbach, Decorah, IA; and Jody (Marilyn Headington) Bucheit, Decorah, IA. Nine grandchildren: Tara (Damian) McGrane, Bryan (Alexa) Bucheit, Kayla Bucheit, Emily (Mark) Schneider, Nathan (Mallorie) Klotzbach, Andrew (Jenn) Klotzbach, Seth Klotzbach, Sadie and Sully Bucheit. Ten great grandchildren: Christine, Cassius, Catalina, Caelius and Celia McGrane, Jocelyn Bucheit, Brinn and Reese Schneider, Harper and Everly Klotzbach. Sister: Joan Schissel, Ossian, IA. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Martha (Jerry) Samuelson, Decorah, IA; Marian (Al) Schissel, Rice Lake, WI; Gordon (Dorothy) Willson, Rice Lake, WI; Dennis (Mary) Willson, Marion, IA along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Claude was preceded in death by his wife Gretchen on May 1, 2012. Parents: Alphonse and Olivia (Schneberger) Bucheit. Sister: Joyce Bucheit. Brothers: Gerry (Mary) Bucheit, Adrian (LaVonn) Bucheit and Quintin (Marcelite) Bucheit. Mother and Father-in-law: Leo and Mary (Hyberger) Willson. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Donald Schissel, Madelyn (Wilber) Wise, Rita (Bob) Lansing and Kathy Willson.
