Roxanne Marie (Hovey) Kinkade, 76, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Decorah, passed away Sept. 28, 2017, at the Homestead Group Home in Tucson, after a 15-month battle with brain cancer. A celebration of her life is Saturday, Oct. 21, at Peace in the Valley Lutheran Church in Benson, Ariz.
Roxanne was born in Decorah to Oscar and Elizabeth (Bakken) Hovey Feb. 15, 1941. She was baptized and confirmed at the Madison Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. She graduated from Decorah High School (Class of 1959). She then went to airline school in Minneapolis, Minn., and was employed by Continental Airlines in Minneapolis for many years. She married Rodney Kinkade June 23, 1962, at Madison Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. Upon moving to Tucson, Ariz., she worked as a secretary for the Unified School District of Tucson.
Arizona held Roxanne’s and Rodney’s hearts for more than 40 years. Roxanne will be remembered for her love and dedication to family and friends; her strong faith; her Norwegian heritage; and her love of nature. She was incredibly generous with her time, volunteering and helping friends.Roxanne is survived by her sons, Ron (Leslie) Kinkade, Tacoma, Wash. and Russ (Christie) Kinkade, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; daughter, Raenel (Craig) Mathews, of Payson, Ariz.; two step-sons, Rod. Jr. and Randy (Susan) Kinkade, of Tucson; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson; one brother, Orlin (Harriet) Hovey, of Decorah; and one sister, Karen (Norman) Forde, of Decorah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney, in 2012; and her parents, Oscar and Elizabeth Hovey.
She will truly be missed.
