Arthur Schroeder

Services were held Saturday, April 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, for Arthur W. Schroeder who died April 3 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital, Decorah. The Rev. Duane Manson officiated.

Born on a farm in Fayette County, November 25, 1898, Arthur was the son of John and Caroline Miene Schroeder. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville and received his education in the rural schools near his home.

On December 21, 1920 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Schweinefus. They became parents of two children. The couple farmed south of Castalia until they retired and moved into the town of Castalia.

Survivors include his wife, a son Kenneth and a daughter Mrs. William (Betty) Szabo, both of Castalia; six grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Anna Ruckdaschel of Postville and a half-brother Fritz Oestmann of Clermont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Lori Jo, April 5, 1968 and a half-brother, Bill Oestmann.

Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.
