Mrs. Caroline Olson passed away Thursday afternoon, June 3, at two o'clock at her home in Canoe township. She had been ill for about nine weeks, her death resulting from a weak heart and other ailments.
Caroline Magdaline Olson was born in Kristiansund, Norway, Feb. 7, 1850. She came to the United States in the year 1876, directly to Winneshiek county and in the same year on December 13, she was united in marriage to Carl Magnus Olson, who preceded her in death 34 years ago.
Mrs. Olson had always resided in Canoe township ever since her arrival here. For the past 12 years she had made her home with her son, Oscar, also of Canoe township.
Mr. and Mrs. Olson were the parents of twelve children, three of whom, John, Alfred and Anna preceded her in death. The surviving children are Lizzie (Mrs. Ed. Ringdahl), Clara (Mrs. Theodore Evenson), Stella (Mrs. Harris Foss), all of La Crosse, Wis., Ida (Mrs. Frank Bandle) of Montana, Gust, Clarence, Oscar, Charles and Alfred, all of Decorah.
She also had 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Olson will be most kindly remembered by many friends who knew and respected her highly during her long life here. and all extend sympathy to the bereaved children in their loss.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Fjelstul funeral home and at 2:30 from the Hauge church in Canoe township. Rev. Carl Losen officiated and interment was in the cemetery nearby.
