Stanley Arneson, age 90, of Decorah, Iowa died on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Aase Haugen Senior Services.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church with Rev. Kurt Bockoven presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Wednesday morning.

Stanley Warren Arneson was born on July 29, 1927 the son of Martin and Nora (Grindeland) Arneson in Pleasant Township, rural Winneshiek County. He was baptized and confirmed at Big Canoe Lutheran Church. He was educated in a rural school in Pleasant Township. Stanley farmed until entering the United States Army Air Force in 1946 where he earned the rank of Sergeant. He was attached to the Medics. On July 1, 1951, he was united in marriage to Margaret Hovden at the Madison Lutheran Church. To this union four daughters were born: Martha, Mary, Cindy and Deb. Stanley and Margaret farmed in Allamakee Township for four years and Pleasant Township for thirty-five years. They moved to Decorah in 1990. He was Winneshiek County Soil and Conservation District winner, was awarded Premium Milk Producer award from Rochester Dairy in 1957, was on the Farm Service Board of Directors from 1979 to 1985 and was a member of Big Canoe Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council for many terms. Stanley enjoyed going for long walks and going for Sunday drives with Margaret to look at crops. He loved horses and fishing.

Stanley is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret. Three daughters: Mary Tekippe, Decorah, IA; Cindy (Tom) Rima, Decorah, IA; Deb (Jay) Schiltz, Minneapolis, MN. Nine grandchildren: Jason (Cori) Graves, Telluride, CO; Melinda (special friend, Todd Hamilton) Graves, Redding, CA; Sarah (Derek Skolnik) Tekippe, Glenview, Ill; Tina Tekippe, Kansas City, MO; Michelle Rima, West Des Moines, IA; Stephanie Rima, Minneapolis, MN; Ben, Eva and Berit Schiltz all of Minneapolis, MN. Great grandchildren: Nyle Lienhard, Lily Graves, Alex Graves, Makayla Sales, Colin Skolnik and Simone Skolnik. Brothers: Paul (Bernice) Arneson, Decorah, IA and Ralph (Shirley) Arneson, Decorah, IA. Brother-in-law: Earl Albertson, Cresco, IA. Jim Erickson, Mabel, MN. Along with many very close friends of Stanley and Margaret.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents: Martin and Nora (Grindeland) Arneson. Daughter: Martha Graves. Sister: Kathryn (Jerome) Kroshus. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Orville Hovden, Cora (Harold) Grice, Joe (Dorothy) Hovden, Alice (Jack) Callison, Irene Albertson, Oscar Hovden and Ethel (Roland “Bud”) Drape. Father and mother-in-law: Anton and Alma (Ramstad) Hovden.
