Marcella Christine Lucas, 82, of Cresco, died Friday, July 28, 2017, at Hawkeye Care Center in Cresco. A Celebration of Life ceremony is Sunday, Aug. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Vernon Springs Park, Cresco.
Marcella was born in Conover, (Winnishiek County) Dec. 12, 1934, to George and Mary (Puffer) Phillips. Her siblings were George, Mary, Christine, Pauline, Johnny, Frank and Joe.
Marcella married Leonard Panos of Protivin in Oct. of 1952; and to this union five chidren were born: Dave (Dolly) Panos of Decorah, Dennis (Joy) Panos of Lena, Ill., Leonard Panos (Kris) of Decorah, Trudy (Don) Dilger of Manchester and Diane (Scott) Pitzenberger of Cresco. Leonard also had three children from previous marriages: Sr. Joyce Ann Panos of Milwaukee, Wis., Bernice (Tom) Britt of New Hampton and Jerry (Carol) Novotny of La Porte City. A few years after the death of Leonard Panos, Marcella married Leland Panoch of New Hampton, and to this union two children were born, children Lee (Michelle) Panoch of Cresco and Larry Panoch of Cresco. Leland and Marcella then divorced and Marcella met and married Owen Lucas of Cresco, and to this union three children were born: Kenny Lucas (Rhonda) of Pine, Ariz., Jamie Lucas of Cresco and Susan (Tony) Pitzenberger of Waterloo.
Marcella had 26 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom she loved dearly.
Marcella loved being with her family and friends, especially after she received her cochlear implant hearing system. She loved the accordian, polka and country music (especially Alan Jackson, and the fact that she saw him in concert). She was an avid Jeff Gordon fan. She loved her porcelain dolls, fishing, birds, flowers, stuffed animals, dogs, cats and puzzles.
Marcella was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. We cherish our memories with her and the many stories she had to share. She touched our lives in a positive way and will be greatly missed.
Marcella is survived by one brother, Joe (Sue) Phillips, of New Port Richey, Fla.She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters; and her three spouses.
