Lawrence Albertson, age 94, of Decorah, IA, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Burr Oak United Methodist Church in Burr Oak with Pastor Linda Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour before the service, at Burr Oak United Methodist Church.

Lawrence Reuben Albertson was born on May 19th, 1923 in Lincoln Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Lawrence was the youngest in the family of 12, the son of Henry O. and Ella (Espeseth) Albertson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lincoln Lutheran Church near Ridgeway, Iowa.

Lawrence received his education in the rural, one-room schools of Winneshiek County and High School diploma from the American School Chicago correspondence courses. He farmed in the Ridgeway area until 1961 when he moved near Burr Oak and continued to farm. He quit farming in 1975 and started working at the North Winneshiek School. He continued working at the school until his retirement.

On June 30, 1977, Lawrence and Vera Mae (Wirtz) Miller were married in the United Methodist Church in Burr Oak, Iowa. They both began rosemaling after retirement and were both very busy with it until Vera’s passing on May 2, 2007. Shortly after Vera’s death, Lawrence moved to the Mill street apartment complex and later on moved to Aase Haugen Assisted Living, and finally into the nursing home at Aase Haugen Senior Services.

Lawrence was a very kind, thoughtful and caring man with a wonderful sense of humor. When his wife, Vera was admitted into the nursing home, he never missed a day without visiting her. Lawrence enjoyed sharing a cup of coffee and good cookies or other sweets over a story or joke when friends, relatives or caregivers would stop in. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy and even until shortly before his death, he would watch and respond with many correct answers. His rosemaling talents were exceptional and his work can be seen at different places in Decorah and across the country in the homes of the many customers Vera and he had. He had a green thumb that could bring back to life the feeblest of plants. His faith in Christ was a model for all Christians. His kindness towards others was an example for all. He was an active member of Burr Oak United Methodist Church.

Lawrence is survived by one sister, Alice Wilbur of Decorah, one step granddaughter, McKenzie Jensen of Boise, Idaho and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera; one step daughter, Merrylin Miller on September 12, 2003; his parents, Ella and Henry; his siblings, Ole (Gladys) Albertson, Alfred (Emma) Albertson, Mabel (Alfred) Creger, Herbert (Maude) Albertson, Ted, Tedmar (Lexcey), Gladys (Mahlon) Hovey, Edward, Walter (Viola) Albertson and Raymond (Barbara) Albertson; and brother-in-law, Lyle Wilbur.
