Lynn Ann Rognlien McConnell was born in Decorah March 21, 1945. She died in Madison, Wis. May 23, 2017.

She was a lifelong learner and studied widely and deeply over many years at Edgewood College. She spent her professional life as an educational assistant with the Madison Metro School District. She had a heart for children, for their learning, their joy, their futures.

She loved God and music, books and new art supplies, the smell of the Iowa soil in lambing season. She was a creator of beauty; she lived with the heart of an artist, painted and drew, gardened with great skill and great modesty, sang and played the French horn and guitar. She taught her five children to love these things, too. She hated injustice, poverty, and exclusion, and taught her children to want and work for more for everyone. She was ferocious on behalf of the underdog.

She is survived by her brother Loren "Buzz" Rognlien (Beverly) and her children Dana McConnell (Walter Elder), Beth McConnell (Karen Darcy), Kerra McConnell, Cristin Bock (Jonathan) and Quinn McConnell (Amelia). She will be missed by her children and by her grandchildren: Jordan McConnell (Sunny Thor), Dylan McConnell, Scarlett McConnell Elder, Charlie, Theo, Louisa and Violet Bock, Isla McConnell and Nadia Marks. She was one of a kind.

Lynn was preceded in death by her adored parents, Audrey Sharp Rognlien and Elmer Rognlien; and her brother, Alan Rognlien, of Decorah.

Services were at Lake Edge Lutheran Church, 4032 Monona Dr., Madison, Wednesday, May 31, beginning at 3 p.m. Visitation was Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, if anyone would like to make donations in our mom's memory they can do so to Madison Urban Ministry (MUM). Donations can be done online at emum.org.
