Patsy Herold, age 85, of Ft. Atkinson, IA died on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Hampton, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the St John’s Catholic Church, 201 Oak Street, Ft. Atkinson, IA with Father Kyle Digmann presiding. Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home Chekal Chapel, 201 Main Street, Ft. Atkinson, IA. There will also be visitation after 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home on Thursday morning.

There will be a rosary at 5:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at the funeral home.

Patsy Ruth (Holmes) Herold was born on November 15, 1931, the daughter of Oliver Wendal Sr. and Marie (Hodges) Holmes in Columbus, GA. Patsy married James Herold on June 8, 1953, in Lucedale, Mississippi. Together they had four children, Brenda, Linda, Paul and James. While Jim was in the service, Patsy spent her time raising their four children. She enjoyed gardening, specifically flowers. She played the guitar and piano and also enjoyed playing scrabble and visiting with friends. Patsy was known as a terrific cook. She was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church and the parish guild.

Patsy is survived by two daughters: Brenda (Alan) McKean, Portland, OR and Linda (Marty) Bell, Phoenix, AZ. Two sons: Paul (Penny) Herold, Fort Atkinson, IA and James “Zbart” (Candy) Herold, Calmar, IA. Four grandchildren: Nellie & Paul (P.J.) Herold and Blake & Benjamin Biesecker. One great granddaughter: Star Lena Biesecker. Sister: Rosa Octavia Constable, Covina CA, Two brothers-in-law: Jack (Ann) Herold, Fort Atkinson, IA and Jerry (Audrey) Herold, North Liberty, IA. Three sisters-in-law: Boots Holmes, Tallahassee, FL, Becky Holmes, Cedar Rapids, IA and Mary Phillips, Spillville, IA.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents: Oliver Wendal Sr. and Marie (Hodges) Holmes. Her husband: James "Jim" Herold on December 7, 2009. Two brothers: Oliver Wendal Holmes Jr. (Buddy) and Joe Holmes. Two sisters: Rita Thomas and Juanita McKinney. Brother-in-law: Merlyn Phillips.
