Friends may call from 4:30 – 6:30 P.M. Friday, March 24 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and after 9:30 A.M. Saturday, one hour before the service, at the church.

June Shirley (Fulsaas) Rovang was born June 20, 1929 at home on the farm in Winneshiek County, Iowa, the third child of Albert and Ruth (Holstad) Fulsaas. She was a lifelong member of Madison Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. June grew up just north of the church, and later taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Ladies Aide, and Circle. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1947 and went on to Normal School to become a teacher at country school, which she did for eight years. She also took many classes at Luther College to continue her teaching education.

June was united in marriage to Gordon Rovang on October 20, 1950 and to this union two sons, Dale and Dean, were born. They farmed on land in Madison Township after Gordon returned from his military service, and continued farming until 1986.

In 1974 June started as a volunteer for Winneshiek Development Center, and after two weeks she was hired to be an Education Instructor. She started out with 13 clients in the Episcopal church basement with the help of N.I.T.I. to what is now Spectrum Industries with 100-plus clients, and teaching life skills and being a payee for some of the clients. She always enjoyed her work and spent 30 years there, retiring in 2004.

June’s enduring faith was her basis for happiness, as were her many family trips with her brothers and their wives, especially their trips to Norway and Mexico. She also enjoyed a good laugh, her raspberries, the farm cats and dogs, crossword puzzles and Sudoko (done in ink.) June and Gordon moved off of the farm and into town in 2006, and most recently to assisted living in November of 2016. June met her Coffee Club friends six days a week for the past 30-plus years, the last few years at the Family Table. These ladies have a very special bond and a very special place in our hearts. They have gone on many trips together, weekend outings and many family events for each other. They helped each other through life’s up and downs. They were the Coffee Club. This past year they have had some difficult changes, but were always there for each other.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon on May 27, 2008; her parents, Albert and Ruth Fulsaas; and by two brothers, Merle and Gordon Fulsaas.

June is survived by her two sons, Dale (Peggy) Rovang of Decorah and Dean (Patty) Rovang of Albuquerque, NM; two granddaughters, Laura (Jason) Lemke of Decorah and Sarah Rovang (John Golden) of Ann Arbor, MI; two great-granddaughters, Jenna and Kylie Lemke; one brother, Roy (Pat) Fulsaas of Ridgeway, IA; four sisters-in-law, Dee Rovang, Marion Rovang Rude, Larice Fulsaas, and JoAnne Fulsaas; and many nieces and nephews.
