Richard Feddern, age 76, of Spillville, formerly of Cedar Rapids died Monday, March 13, 2017 at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, IA.
Celebration of Life will be 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the Spillville Public Library at 201 Oak St. in Spillville, Iowa. Burial of ashes will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 34024 Veterans Memorial Dr. Adel, Iowa.
Richard Nile Feddern was born on March 29, 1940, the son of Edward and Neva (Olthant) Feddern, Sr. in Cedar Rapids, IA. Richard attended Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, IA. He enlisted into the US Navy in 1957 & was honorably discharged in 1963. While in the Navy he served aboard the heavy cruiser USS Los Angeles. After the service, he worked at numerous nuclear power plants around the United States and was a UAW construction worker. Most recently he worked as a grounds keeper for the city of Spillville. He was a member of the Spillville American Legion Post 467. He enjoyed playing Frisbee Golf with buddy Aaron, playing the lottery, and helping people rebuild their homes in Florida and Texas after hurricanes. He loved the outdoors and open water, and very much enjoyed his beer. He will be affectionately remembered by his friends & family as a free-spirited soul, who always had a smile & helping hand.
We are all blessed to have known people in our lives who are so hard to say goodbye to. Richard had many extended family & friends all over the country. Richard was married to Sharon (Johnson) of Waukon, IA. They were later divorced. He married Jeanette (Bean) of Snellville, GA. They were also divorced.
He is survived by one daughter: Jennifer (Jeff) Ira, Spillville, IA. Two granddaughters: Leslie and Kathryn Ira. Stepchildren: James (Michelle) Shaw & Debra Shaw. sister Peggy (James) Bacher, Sisters-in-law: Carole (Bill) Donohue, Carol Feddern, Sue Feddern and Kaye Feddern. Several nieces and nephews, and many friends he made in his life’s travels.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Neva (Olthant) Feddern, Sr., late wife Sharon (Johnson), Brothers: Edward Feddern, Norm Feddern, Don Feddern, and Gary Feddern, Sisters: Jayne Zitek, Pat Penrod, infant sister Norma and niece Donna Feddern.
