Margery Kay (Fike) Gorden was born on January 31, 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Homer and Margaret (Dawson) Fike. She graduated from Orange Consolidated School in 1947. She attended McPherson College in Kansas and received her Home Economics Education degree in 1951 from Iowa State University. Margery taught Homemaking classes at Newhall, New Hampton, and Klemme, Iowa schools and Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia.
Margery was united in marriage to Doyle Gorden on August 7, 1955 at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren. They lived in Garner, Tripoli, Fort Collins, Colorado, Spirit Lake, and West Union before moving to their farm near Castalia in 1971.
Margery was a member of numerous organizations, some of which were the Association for Retarded Citizens, Opportunity Homes, and United Way of Winneshiek County. She was also an active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, working in vacation bible school, Session, Presbyterian Women, and John Knox Presbytery.
Margery is survived by her husband, Doyle; sons, Kyle (Vicki) Gorden of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Daryl (Wallis) Gorden of Asheboro, North Carolina; daughter, Margaret (Mark) Neubauer of Crystal, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Dustin Gorden, Katelyn Neubauer, and BreAnna Neubauer; brother, Neil Fike of Waterloo, sister-in-law, Norma (Milo) Bettis of Allerton; brother-in-law, Loel (Carol) Gorden of Winona, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews.
Margery is preceded in death by her parents; father and mother in-law, Willis and Verda Gorden; daughter, Gayle; and sisters- in- law, Beverly Fike, Lois Gorden, Lorene Gorden and Katherine Gorden.
Memorials preferred to Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union and Heifer International.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union, Iowa with Rev. Don Best as the Officiant. There will be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Saturday.
Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
