Born April 13 1850, in Bridgeport, Conn., as Mary Ann Killilay, she was taken to New Albany, Ind., when five years old by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Killilay. Two days after their arrival there, the father was killed in an accident. Her mother immediately took passage on a river steamer for Dubuque, where a brother lived.
Enroute, Mrs. Killilay contracted cholera and died. The day after the children reached Dubuque, their uncle contracted the cholera and died the next day. The children were taken by Dan Carr of Waukon, which whom they made their home until they reached maturity.
Mrs. Weldon was married to Thomas Weldon Dec. 25, 1871. In 1873 they moved to Decorah and here the family home has since been maintained.
Surviving Mrs. Weldon are two daughters, Mrs. W.B. Griggs and Mrs. T.K. Kely, both of Minneapolis; and one son, John G. Weldon of Iron Mountain, Mich.; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
