Irene K. McConnell, age 96, of Decorah, IA, died on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah with Rev. Phil Gibbs officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery in rural Bluffton, IA.

Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 24 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m., one hour before the service, at the church.

Irene is survived by five children: Mary (Dennis) Cook of Waterloo, IA, Jane Ellen (Raphael) Murray of Nevada, IA, Kathleen (James) Simon of Clive, IA, David (Brenda) McConnell of Decorah, and Maureen (Ervin Jr.) Yahr of Decorah, IA; fifteen grandchildren: Michael (Melissa) McConnell, Overland Park, KS; Denise (Mikel) Schulta, Kearney, MO; Timothy (Brigid) Cook, Oklahoma City, OK; Suzanne (Jeff) Henkle, Kansas City, MO; Patrick Cook, Chicago, IL; Erin (Steve) Seals, Des Moines, IA; Shana (Joel) Wiseman, Chicago, IL; Ryan (Megan) Murray, Louisville, CO; Ellen (Evan) Borst, Wichita, KS; Benjamin (Danielle) Roling; Liberty, KS, Emily (Anthony) Zingale, Clive, IA; Regan (Tara) McConnell, Decorah, IA; Sara (Zach) Bulman, Decorah, IA; Kaitlin (fiancé Joel Pohland) Yahr, Little Falls, MN; and Ervin “Will” Yahr III, Decorah, IA; twenty-one great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
