Duane Joseph Einck was born on December 18, 1942 on a farm just north of Calmar to Edwin and Irene (Meyer) Einck as the oldest of six children. Duane grew up helping on the family farm and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Duane was a part of the first ever South Winneshiek high school graduating class in 1960. After high school, he worked in construction first helping build post offices across Iowa with his lifelong friend Don Crubel before owning a construction business of his own. After his construction career, Duane drove truck both locally and nationally for over 30 years. During his truck driving career, he estimated to have driven over four million miles and saw 49 states and most of the Canadian Provinces. His favorite pastimes included his annual fishing trip to Kansas, classic car and tractor rides, family activities, traveling, and having coffee with friends. All of these activities centered around conversation, of which Duane excelled at as he never met a stranger. Some of Duane’s prouder accomplishments include a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Army’s First Infantry Division, a severe accident free truck driving record, and being sober for the last 36 and a half years of his life.
He is survived by his special friend, Nora Hemesath, Ossian, IA; his two children from a previous marriage to Evelyn Einck, Adam Einck with special friend Courtney Morgan, Baton Rouge, LA, and Bree Peterson with husband Josh, Dodge Center, MN; his four step children, Carmen Kriener, Spillville, IA, Rachel Sorenson, Castalia, IA, Travis Hemesath, Ossian, IA, and Melinda Hemesath, Ossian, IA; his six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Kriener, Jamison Vondersitt, Courtney Vondersitt, Brandon Kriener, Gracie Vondersitt, and Kyrie Peterson; and his four siblings, Darlene Benedict with special friend Steve Nelson, Don Einck with wife Gaye, Denise O’Shea, and Deb Palmersheim with husband Mark.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents. Brother: Dean “Bear” Einck, and brother in law Michael O’Shea.
