Helen Vick, age 86, of Decorah, IA, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday morning, October 28, 2016, at Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2016, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Stacey Nalean Carlson presiding. Burial will be in the Glenwood East Cemetery, rural Decorah, IA.

Friends may call after 10:00 a.m., on Friday morning at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, IA.

Helen Viola (Mitchell) Vick was born January 4, 1930, near Marquette, IA, in Allamakee County to Raymond and Cecilia (Wintrick) Mitchell. In her earlier years, she helped her parents at home. Helen moved to Decorah and worked as a waitress at the Silver Dollar, where she met Vernon, her husband to be. She married Vernon Richard Vick on June 14, 1954 in Decorah. To this union two children were born: a daughter, Judy and a son, Stacey. After a few years being a mother and homemaker, she began working at Deco Products in Decorah. She worked there for 38 years until retiring at the age of 70. She enjoyed her friends and family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Judy (Mark) Bruening, New Hampton, IA; a son, Stacey of Kailua, HI; three grandchildren: Steven Bruening, Nevada, IA, Jennifer (Tony) Drewelow, Waverly, IA, James (Ashleigh) Bruening, Norfolk, VA; two great-grandchildren, Leelu and Nyko Drewelow; one brother-in-law, Roy Thorn, II, Joplin, MO; along with several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon Vick on August 30, 1981. Three sisters and their spouses: Marjorie Thorn, Regina and Robert Drallmeier and Lillian and Marvin Ball. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Emil and Hilda Jevne, Bennie and Myrtle Boe, Walter and Eleanor Womeldorf, Norman and Mildred Vick, Truman and Gladys Engen (Pecinovsky), Gordon and Cora Ostrander, and Donald Pecinovsky.
