Andrew Frank Hageman, 43, passed away peacefully at home with his wife, Christina and his brother, Kyle by his side on Wednesday October 19, 2016 after a three year battle with colon cancer. Andy was born January 16, 1973 to Arnold and Lucy (Hemesath) Hageman in Decorah, Iowa. He was the tenth of eleven siblings. He grew up on the family farm until the age of 8, when they moved into town (Ossian). He graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1991.
Andy moved to Waterloo Iowa in 1994, working at Black Hawk Engineering until he was hired at John Deere, in Skilled Trades, in October 1996. He valued education and invested in improving his skills his entire life. Andy attended Hawkeye Community College and University of Northern Iowa, as well as, a lifelong personal commitment to continuing education and improvement. His hobbies included smoking meats, golf and spending time with family and friends.
Andy married Christina (Peverill) Hageman on June 18, 2015, adding two loved step-daughters, Eesa and Riley Jenks. As Andy and Christina faced the tough decisions and difficult times after his terminal diagnosis, they lived in gratitude for every day. Please don't be sorry Andy is gone. Be grateful he lived life on his own terms; and every day, say out loud in his honor: "I am so grateful that..."
Andy is survived by his wife, Christina, step-daughters, Eesa and Riley; his mother, Lucy Hageman; his siblings Steve (Dianne) Hageman, Becky (Dick) White, Dan (Deb) Hageman, Pat (Joe) Chilsen, Dale (Bonnie) Hageman, Jay (Barb) Hageman, Sara (Jim) Oftelie, Lee (Bev) Hageman and Kyle (Dawn) Hageman; and many nieces and nephews.
Andy was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Hageman, his sister, Jackie (Hageman) May, his maternal grandparents, Frank and Bertha Hemesath and his paternal grandparents, Joe and Elizabeth Hageman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa. Rev. Robert Gross will be the celebrant.
Friends may call 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2016 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
Private Family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
