Betty Best, age 73, of St. Lucas, IA, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2016 at the St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA, with Rev. Kyle Digmann presiding, burial will be in the St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery in St. Lucas, IA.

Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the St. Lukes Catholic Church in St. Lucas, and also after 9:30 a.m., at the church on Friday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m., on Thursday.

Betty Jean (Brincks) Best was born on February 7, 1943, the daughter of Anton and Mathilda (Kipp) Brincks, near Festina, IA. She graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in 1961. After high school Betty worked as a cook at Frederick’s Restaurant in Decorah. She married Henry Best on June 30, 1962, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, IA. Together they farmed north of St. Lucas from 1962 until 2010. Their son Richard joined them in 1983. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and quilting. Betty loved to travel, make jellies and spend time with her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her husband Henry Best, Waucoma, IA. Four children: Richard (Barb) Best, Waucoma, IA; Dennis (Joan) Best, Fort Atkinson, IA; Cheryl (Brian) DeMaris, Robins, IA and Linda (Todd) Smith, Rochester, MN. Nine Grandchildren: Amy (Aaron) Zeigler, Dr. Amanda (Dr. Brian) Breviu, Adam (Jena) Best, Levi Best, Izaack Best, Jacob DeMaris, Zachary DeMaris, Alex Smith and Eric Smith. Two great grandchildren: Drake Zeigler and Natalie Zeigler. Brothers and Sisters: Arlene Lansing, Waukon, IA; Kathy (Ron) Walz, Highland Park, ILL; Mary Ann Martin, Waucoma, IA; Jerry (Jeanne) Brincks, Decorah, IA; James (Elaine) Brincks, Harvard, ILL; Jean (Gerald) Tieskoetter, Ocala, FL; Tony (Marilyn) Brincks, Ossian, IA; Donald (Joyce) Brincks, Ossian, IA, along with many nieces and nephews. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Chuck (Doris) Frana, Calmar, IA; Helen Jirak, St. Lucas, IA; Francis (Sue) Best, Fort Atkinson, IA; Victor (Mary) Croatt, St. Lucas, IA and Barbara Spitzer, Wheeling IL.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents: Anton and Mathilda Brincks, father and mother in law: Frank and Emily Best, Two brothers: Virgil and Gervase Brincks. Three brothers-in-law: Lawrence Lansing, Harry Martin and Edward Jirak.

Betty’s family would like to thank all the staff she encountered over the last 10 years at Mayo Clinic Rochester, Palmer Lutheran Health West Union and especially Ossian Senior Hospice for their care and compassion during her last month with us.
