Margaret Wiechman, 95, died Wednesday May 18, 2016, at Decorah Winneshiek Medical Center. She died peacefully following a very short illness. She and her late husband Kermit Wiechman had been residing at Arlin Falck Assisted Living in Decorah for the last several years. A memorial service is Saturday, July 9, at 1 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Decorah. Peg’s cremated remains are interred at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Iowa Falls. In lieu of flowers Peg requested any memorials go to St. Matthew’s or a place of your choice.
Peg was born in Iowa Falls March 12, 1921, to Wendell C. Patterson and Gertrude Patterson. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Matthew’s Church. This beautiful little church sitting on the bank of the Iowa River always meant a great deal to Peg and seems like a fitting final resting place for her. Peg graduated from high school in Iowa Falls and stayed in contact through the years with many of her high school friends. Following graduation she worked at a local bank for several years. Music and dancing were a love and a calling for Peg. She formed her own dance business and taught many students a variety of dance steps through the years. She was often asked to help with dance routines for plays and other performances. he married Robert Klove, also from Iowa Falls, March 22, 1942. Together they owned Klove’s, a men’s clothing store, for many years. Bob and Peg had two children, Jeanne and Don. Bob passed away in 1968 at a very young age. Peg married Kermit Wiechman Aug. 23, 1970, and her life as a farm wife began. She settled in on his farm south of Hubbard. Many of her friends wondered how this “city girl” would adjust to the country but she did and grew to love the quiet loveliness of the farm.
Peg was always busy. She loved to bake, knit and certainly was an avid golfer. She and Kerm enjoyed being on the golf course and played many rounds with Hubbard friends and family. They traveled abroad numerous times but after retirement they divided their time between Hubbard and Tucson, Ariz. In 2011 Kerm and Peg settled into Arlin Falck Assisted Living in Decorah to be closer to their family. They enjoyed the years there and appreciated the loving care of the staff. Peg continued to fill her time knitting and loving and caring for other people. Few of us will leave a legacy such as Peg. Kindness, unquestioning love, gentle humor and a positive attitude towards life is the way she lived … every day, without fail.
Left to mourn her passing are her children, Jeanne (Bob) Houle, Tucson, Ariz. and Don (Dulce) Klove, Mazatlan, Mexico; her two step-daughters, Karla (Stan) Collins, White Bear, Minn.., Carole (Mike) Daughton, Decorah: step-grandchildren: Shawn Daughton, Chris (Sue) Collins, Nancy (Mike) Hovden, Steven Daughton and Mary (Mike) Jorrison; step-great-grandchildren: Leo Daughton-Johnson, Bayleigh and Brogan Collins, Elizabeth, Anna and Adam Hovden, Jordan and Courtney Skillings, Jordan and Meg Smith and Emma Jorisson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Klove, in 1968; and her husband, Kermit Wiechman, in 2013.
