G. Holthaus Dies In San Antonio

Gust Holthaus, 46, resident of Festina for 43 years died in San Antonio Texas, Tuesday, March 15. His body was sent from San Antonio Tuesday night and arrived in Cedar Rapids Wednesday noon, March 16.

Funeral services will be held in St. Mary’s church at Festina on Friday, March 18. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery at Festina.

Gust Holthaus was born in 1903 on a farm east of Festina. His parents were August and Caroline Holthaus. He was educated in parochial schools at Festina.

He never married. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Felix Hageman and Mrs. John Cremer, both of Calmar and three brothers, Joseph and Felix Holthaus both of Festina and The Rev. Henry Holthaus of Dubuque.

Mrs.{sic} Holthaus lived in Festina all his life with the exception of the last two years that he has been traveling. His occupation was farming and he was a member of St Mary’s church at Festina.

Note: His gravestone shows year of birth as 1902 and his first name as Gustave.
