Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 9th, at 11:00 AM at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, IA, with Pastor Stacey Nalean-Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Glenwood East Cemetery, rural Decorah. Visitation will be held one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.
Kathryn Ann Langland was born May 11, 1963, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Richard Alexander and Lila Alvera (Hagen) Langland. She was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, IA, and received her accounting degree from Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, IA. Kathy worked for a while at Northern Engraving in Waukon before working as an accountant for Rambo Pharmacy in Decorah. Due to health issues, Kathy had to step down from her accounting job and started working as a dietary aide at Wellington Place in Decorah. She also helped her brother Rick on his farm-driving tractor, milking cows, and raising chickens.
She was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church and enjoyed going to church activities including Bible study and game nights. Kathy absolutely loved animals, especially her Jack Russell terrier Penny, and liked horseback riding. She also really enjoyed being outside, looking at the autumn leaves, and taking trips to Effigy Mounds National Monument, which fed into her interest in the Native American history of Northeast Iowa. As her diabetes progressed, Kathy’s activity became limited so she spent a lot of time reading and watching TV, but liked to go out to eat and to the movies. With her sister Cheryl, Kathy liked to travel around the area to look at the Christmas lights. Kathy relished time spent and phone calls with her friends, who she talked with a lot, and adored her nieces and nephews.
Kathy is survived by her two sisters: Charlene (John) Loven of Decorah and Cheryl (Brad) Freilinger of Monona, IA; her brother Rick (fiancée Rhonda Schloesser) Langland of Waukon; eight nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and nephews; one uncle; three aunts; and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Honorary casketbearers are Brenda Freilinger, Marsha Pierce, and Carla Rausch. Casketbearers are Reggie Freilinger, Tim Loven, Beau Langland, Brent Mohs, Chad Bettmann, Andrew Snitker, and Zach Nosbisch.
