Grace G. Hubka, age 98 of Cresco, Iowa died Thursday evening, November 19, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Grace was born December 18, 1916 in rural Cresco to Joseph and Mary (Kostka) Mlady. On February 22, 1937, during a blizzard she married William J. Hubka. Grace and Bill farmed, raising crops, chickens and other livestock, in the Cresco area for many years. They retired from farming in 1975 when they moved into Cresco. After moving to Cresco Grace worked in the dietary department of the Cresco hospital, retiring from that in 1987. Grace enjoyed her flower garden, was proud of her Czech heritage and was a member for over 50 years of the Western Fraternal Life Association. She baked Kolaches and won several awards for her pies at the Howard County Fair. At age 95 she bought her first computer and communicated with family and friends through Facebook. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and watching all the grandchildren and their descendants get along together. Grace and her family are grateful for her neighbors: Dan & Kathy Schmitt and Jim & Val Rink for their friendship and neighborly help over the years.

Grace is survived by two children: Kenneth (Mary Jo) Hubka of Cresco and Elaine (Gary) Schriver of Mason City; Thirteen grandchildren: Deb (Gary) Oltman of Chapin, Iowa, Dan (Lori) Hubka of Sheffield, Iowa, Dave (Sarah) Hubka of Belmond, Iowa, Denise Hubka of Sheffield, Iowa, Deanne Dahlstrom of Sheffield, Iowa, Doreen (Doug) Dohlman of Sheffield, Iowa, Dale (Bonnie) Hubka of Sheffield, Iowa, Dean (Lisa) Hubka of Sheffield, Iowa, Scott (Jodie) Hubka of Cresco, Iowa, Kenneth (Laura) Hubka of Riceville, Iowa, Karen Hubka of Cresco, Iowa, Alan Schriver of Seattle, Washington, Philip (Melanie) Schriver of West Desmoines, Iowa, 26 great-grandchildren: Callie Oltman, Levi Hubka (fiancé Stephanie Delagardelle), Stephanie Hubka, Jordan Hubka, Mandie (Matt) Martinez, Holly Malek, Malachi Hubka, Brenton Dahlstrom, Braeden Dahlstrom, Erin Dohlman, Elissa Dohlman, Lauren Grace Dohlman, Rachael Hubka, Nate Hubka, Madaline Hubka, Brylie Hubka, Norah Hubka, Dallas “DJ” Hubka, Braydon Hubka, Ellie Friend, Lily Hubka, Joseph Hubka (Fiancée Kris Dixon), Erica (Trevor) Elwood, Robert Reed, Katie Schmidt, Brian Schmidt; 14 Great-great-grandchildren: Aidan, Liam, and Karter Hubka, Will Taegen Channing, Tenlee Grace Elwood, Cade and Lilah Martinez, Branson, Ellee, and Rylee Peters, Anabelle, Rosalei, Holly and Aaron Reed; and a sister-in-law: Theona Mlady and many nieces and nephews.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, husband William in 1992, a son Donald in 1991, daughter-in-law Delores in 1995, a grandson, Douglas Hubka in 2009; her siblings: Edith Pacovsky, Bill Mlady, Mayme Mrachek, Joseph Mlady Jr., Blanche Vokaty and Melvin Mlady.
