Rodney Hagensick, age 55, of Decorah, IA, died on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at his home in Decorah.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 15, 2015, at Walden Pond, 1432 – 130th Avenue, Castalia, IA, with Rev. David Lenth presiding. Burial will be in the Walden Pond Cemetery, rural Castalia, IA.

Friends may call from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, IA.

Rodney Lowell Hagensick was born on December 21, 1959, the son of Jack and Sally (Schultz) Hagensick in Decorah, IA. Rodney was baptized on April 24, 1960, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Castalia and confirmed on April 27, 1975, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. Rodney attended Waukon Community Schools and helped on the family farm. He worked at Deco Products in Decorah and then also farmed with his Dad. Together he and Paula Hitchcock had two sons, Shane and Troy. He then was united in marriage to Sharla Fogt and had Elijah “E.J.” and Ethan, they later divorced. Over the years, Rod worked various jobs and currently was employed at Ridgetop Erosion Control in Dorchester, IA. Rod enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing and riding his bicycle. Above everything else, Rod loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and his friends.

Rod is survived by his four sons: Shane (friend, Trisha Kountkofsky) Hagensick, Waukon, IA; Troy (Kristie) Hagensick, Waukon, IA; Elijah “E.J.” (friend, Nicole Cameron) Hagensick, Tucson, AZ; and Ethan (friend, Sarah Webber) Hagensick, Tucson, AZ. Eight grandchildren: Tristan, Xavier and Tyson Hagensick; Kaydyn and Jordyn Hagensick; Radley and Ellie Hagensick; and Osten Hagensick. His parents: Jack and Sally Hagensick, Waukon, IA. Four siblings: Rick (Charlene) Hagensick, Waukon, IA; Barbara (Rick) Schares, Readlyn, IA; Brenda (Dave) McConnell, Decorah, IA; and Rusty (Deb) Hagensick, Decorah, IA, along with several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and cousins. Two uncles: Jim (Sharon) Schultz, Oregon, IL, and Alan (Judy) Schultz, Ozark, AL. Rod’s close friend, Sheri Koester, Decorah, IA.

Rod was preceded in death by his grandparents: Roy & Genevieve Schultz and Joe & Lois Hagensick.
