IN MEMORIAM.
VANCE—Addie, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Vance, died at their home near Cresco, April 17, 1893, aged 9 years 9 months and 3 days.
The remains were taken to Ossian to be interred in the Centennial Cemetery. Again has the Angel of Death taken from our midst one of our fairest flowers.
Addie was a bright, intelligent little girl, possessed of a mild temper and a kind heart, which won for her many warm friends and playmates. But it was not the will of Him, who doeth all things well, that she should remain on this earth any longer; therefore, He gathered her home in the purity of her childhood. Her former schoolmates of Ossian showed their esteem for her by the offering of several floral tributes.
A very able and appropriate service was conducted by Rev. Matt. Wing, of Minneapolis.
Our loved one! sweet and patient child,
In all thy grief and pain,
That little heart so cold and still,
Will never throb againWe miss thee darling, oh! how much,
Our God alone can tell;
He took thee from our loving arms,
“He doeth all things well.”He saw beneath the coffin lid
Thy bright and golden hair;
The curls thy mother used to twine,
Above they forehead fair.The sweet, blue eyes, so full of love,
A little while ago,
Now rest alas! bereft of light,
Beneath their lids of snow.The vacant chair,
And all thy childish toys,
Reminds us, Addie dear, how brief
Are all our earthly joys!Yet when we feel thy little life
Has known so much of pain,
We cannot wish our darling back
To this sad world again.No darling, no, our tearful eyes
We raise to God, in prayer.
For well we know our loved one
Is safe beneath His care.We’ll pray to meet in that sweet rest,
Beyond earth’s sorrows mild;
With other loved ones gone before,
Our blessed, little child.COM.
