Lucille Hinker, age 99, of Calmar, IA, died on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Calmar Lutheran Church, 200 East Street, Calmar, IA, with Rev. Phil Olson presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00-6:00 p.m., on Friday, April 17, 2015, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, 202 South Washington Street, Calmar, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Saturday morning.

The family suggests memorials may be given in memory of Lucille to the Aase Haugen Senior Services, 4 Ohio Street, Decorah, IA, 52101 or to the Calmar Lutheran Church, 200 East Street, Calmar, IA, 52132 or as you choose.

Lucille Margaret (Brookner) Hinker was born on May 20, 1915, the daughter of Joseph and Louisa (Frey) Brookner in Calmar, IA. Lucille was baptized on July 25, 1915 and confirmed on May 26, 1929, at the Calmar Lutheran Church. Lucille attended Calmar Public School and graduated in 1934. She was united in marriage to Reuben Hinker on June 3, 1934, St. Aloysius Rectory in Calmar, IA. Lucille was a homemaker and lived all of her life in Calmar. She was a lifelong member of the Calmar Lutheran Church, WELCA Women, Ladies Circle and Do Day Quilters. Lucille’s hobbies included flower and vegetable gardening, embroidery, playing cards and volunteer work. She enjoyed cooking, baking and entertaining her entire family, especially for Christmas. She also liked to feed the birds and even had a feeder at Aase Haugen. She was Queen of the Calmar Farmer’s Day Parade in 1998 and received the Iowa Volunteerism Award from former Governor Vilsack in 2000.

Lucille is survived by her two children: Marilyn (Tony) Larson, Decorah, IA, and Duane (Janet) Hinker, Cedar Rapids, IA. Five grandchildren: Melody (Bob) Melin, Byron, MN; Terry Larson, Rochester, MN; Brenda (Greg) Quint, Clive, IA; Wendy (Doug) Vogel, Cedar Rapids, IA; and Leann Hinker (Paul Garlinghouse), Tiffin, IA. Great grandchildren: Christopher (Alexis) Larson, Benjamin (Ann) Larson, and Erin Larson, Jason and Laura Quint, Brett (Ashley) Vogel, Jonathan Long, Shanna (Erik) Hawkins, and Spencer Hinker Garlinghouse. Great great grandchildren: Zoe, Lola, Stella, and Ally Hawkins, Noah Long, Cody Larson, Ayden Smith, Ethan Bash, Kayden and Jordan Vogel. One sister-in-law: Peggy Hinker, Burbank, CA.

Lucille was preceded in death by parents: Joseph and Louisa (Frey) Brookner. Her husband: Reuben Hinker in 1988. Two brothers: Truman Brookner and Carl Brookner. Her father-in-law and mother-in-law: John and Rose (Houdek) Hinker. One sister-in-law: Irma (Burton) Bergsrud, four brothers-in-law: Daniel (Ruth) Hinker, Felix (Ruth) Hinker, Carl (Marge) Hinker, Florian Hinker and numerous nieces and nephews.
