RITES HELD FOR LENARD ALLEN

Funeral services were held at the Community Presbyterian Church of Frankville on Saturday afternoon, 2:00 p.m., for Lenard Allen, 43, who passed away at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City on October 30, 1957, following a brief illness. The Rev. Walter T. Martin, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Postville was in charge. Military services were conducted at the grave. Burial was in Frankville cemetery.

Born In Ossian.

Lenard Cecil Allen, son of George F. and Elsie Duff Allen, was born September 16, 1914, in Ossian, Iowa. He died at the Veterans Hospital at Iowa City on October 30, 1957, at the age of 43 years, following a brief illness.

Lenard Allen attended the Centennial and McKay schools in Frankville township.

On September 28, 1942 he was married to Dorothy Bray at Waukon, Iowa.

He was inducted into the United States Army on December 17, 1942 and was honorably discharged on July 5, 1945. He participated in the Sicilian, Normandy, North France, Ardennes and Central Europe battles and campaigns. His rank was Technical Sergeant.

Lenard Allen was awarded five bronze stars for the North Africa campaign, a bronze star medal for the European battles, a District Unit Badge by his First U. S. Infantry, a Good Conduct Medal, and he was entitled to wear EAME Theater Campaign Ribbon with four overseas bars.

Lenard was preceded in death by his mother and one sister, Jerrine Hughes.

He is survived by his father of Frankville, one brother, Leslie of Frankville; five sister, Mrs. H. F. Schweinefus, Frankville, Mrs. Rubin Monroe, Castalia, Mrs. Geneva Ruen, Decorah, Mrs. Elmer Vine, Decorah, Mrs. George Hougen, LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and many nieces and nephews.

Lenard Allen was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
