SERVICES HELD FOR A. H. CALDOW HERE

Funeral services were held last Saturday at the Schutte Funeral Home for Archibald Harvey Caldow, 60, who passed away at Postville Hospital on March 8, 1949. Interment was in North Cemetery in Castalia.

Archibald Harvey Caldow, son of Adam Caldow and Elizabeth Burton Caldow, was born September 5, 1888, in Dane County, Wisconsin, and departed this life at Postville, Tuesday, March 8, 1949, aged 60 years.

Mr. Caldow accompanied his parents from Wisconsin to Iowa when he was about a year and a half of age. The family home was established in Bloomfield township, Winneshiek county, and this continued to be his home until death, with the exception of the time spent in the service of his country in World War I. As a very young man he entered into partnership with his brother, Peter, and together they took over the management of the home farm.

During World War I, Mr. Caldow served as a private in Detachment 1265, Demolition Group, Co. A, 5th Battalion. He was inducted July 26, 1918 and discharged August 14, 1919. He served on the Western Front and as a part of the army of occupation. While the deceased was in the service of his country his brother, Peter, carried on the operation of the farm until his return, when they continued where they had left off.

Left to mourn his passing are three brothers: W. A. Caldow, Lodi, Wisconsin; James K. Caldow, Huron, South Dakota and Robert C. Caldow, Hitchcock, South Dakota. Two sisters: Mrs. John McIntosh, Decorah and Mrs. A. R. Campbell, Castalia.
