Lola Marie (Wilson) Downs died on March 20, 2015 at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah, Iowa. She was born on February 16, 1921 in Louis County, Iowa, the daughter of Ross and Erma (McChesney) Wilson. She graduated from Wapello Community Schools, Class of 1938, and from the Burlington Hospital School of Nursing, Burlington, Iowa, in 1942.

Lola was united in marriage with Albert Dean Downs on June 13, 1942 in Edina, Missouri. Lola and Dean had two sons, Thomas and Roger.

Lola and her husband farmed near Wapello, Iowa. Dean died on December 24, 1965. Lola was the school nurse at Wapello Community Schools for twenty years. Earlier in her career, Lola worked as a nurse at several hospitals, doctors’ offices, and the Iowa Ordinance Plant in Middleton, Iowa.

Lola relocated to Decorah in 1996 to be closer to family. She was a member of Wapello United Methodist Church and was active in church circles in Wapello and Decorah. She was also a member of the Decorah Elks Lodge and enjoyed playing cards with friends.

Lola was preceded in death by her husband Dean, and her son Thomas.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Patricia of Decorah, two grandchildren, Erica Downs-Karai, and Alex Downs, both of Brooklyn, New York, and one great-grandchild, Stella Rose of Asheville, North Carolina.

A private family service will be held at the Wapello Cemetery in Wapello, Iowa.
