Decorah- Gladys Jewell, retired teacher, died early Wednesday following an illness of several years. Funeral services were to be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Olson-Iverson Funeral home and burial was to be in Phelps cemetery. The Rev. Frank L. Callender officiated.

Miss Jewell was born at Ossian, Ia., daughter of Dr. and Mrs. P. M. Jewell. In her early girlhood the family moved to Decorah, where she had made her home since. In 1910 she received a BA degree at Cornell college, Mt. Vernon, Ia., and engaged in educational work, teaching first in the high school at Panora, Ia., later at Ossian, where she became principal of the high school. For several years she was on the faculty of Decorah public schools.

She was a charter member of the Fortnightly club of the Congregational church, of the PEO sisterhood and active in both and in the Congregational church. Her nearest surviving relatives are cousins.
