Calmar- John Cremer, 77, died Friday. Services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Festina.

Cremer Funeral Set For Friday

John Kremer, 77, life-long resident of Winneshiek county, died Tuesday, May 9, at his home in Calmar following an illness of six months.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning, May 12, in St. Aloysius church at Calmar. The Rev. W. J. Cremer of Gilbertville, brother of Mr. Cremer, will read the solemn requiem mass. The Rev. P. J. Friedman will assist as deacon; the Rev. H. A. Holthaus of Dubuque will be sub-deacon; and the Rev. Richard Bohr of Gilbertville will be master of ceremonies. Burial will take place in the family lot in St. Mary’s cemetery at Festina.

Pallbearers will be Clem Zweibohmer, Jerry Bucheit, Clem Lechtenberg, James Staska, W. TeKippe and James Slebiska.

John Cremer was born the son of Wilhelm and Pauline (Henecke) Cremer on July 25, 1872, on the Cremer homestead four miles southeast of Calmar and five miles west of Ossian. He received his education in St. Mary’s school at Festina.

On October 10, 1905, he was married to Mathilda Holthaus, who survives. Children surviving are Al and Vic of Harmony, Minn., Francis, Greg, Leander, Marie (Mrs. Cornelius Rothmeyer), Nora (Mrs. Joe Vondersitt), all of Calmar and Paul of New Hampton.

Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: The Rev. William Cremer of Gilbertville, Frank Cremer of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Mary Thelen of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Andrew Dessel of Ossian and Andrew Cremer of Los Angeles, Calif.

Until 1944 Mr. Cremer devoted himself to operating the farmstead on which he was born. At that time he retired and moved to Calmar.
