Word was received here Friday of the mysterious death of Claude Kirby who was found dead near a railroad track near Austin, Minn. He was a brother of Mrs. Miner Van Wey, and a former Frankville resident.

This article notes that a 38 year-old Austin packing house worker was under arrest as a suspect in the murder of 60 year-old Claude Kirby, who was found at Austin the day before with his head crushed.
Kirby had came to Austin the previous Saturday with the announced intent to collect some money from the suspect, and the two men were staying at the same hotel.
Kirby had between $400 and $500 in his sock when he left Fountain for Austin but no money was found on his body.

An article says Narvin Theodore Narveson, 38 year-old packing house worker, had signed a confession that he had killed Claude Kirby, 60, Fountain farm hand, the previous Tuesday night using a railroad-packing bar. Narveson was charged with first degree Murder.
