Ed Ottney, age 68, of Decorah, IA, died on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at the Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse, WI.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2014, at the Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. David Sorenson and Rev. Bryan Robertson presiding. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, IA, in the spring.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., on Sunday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Monday morning.

Ed is survived by his significant other, Barb Esler, Decorah, IA, along with her three children: Carrie (Joe) Kern, Dorchester, IA, Tim (Jamie) Esler, Decorah, IA, and Amy (fiancé, Eric Burg) Thompson, Decorah, IA. Barb’s grandchildren: Kylie, Broden, Dominic, Joshua, Davon and Seth. Ed’s son: Cory Kleppe, Waterloo, IA, and his children: Mason, Ryan, Erica and Destiny. Two sisters: Nina (Jim) LaPorte, Edinburg, TX and Marvel Tomczak, Jefferson, WI. One brother-in-law: David (Leslie) Hurlbut, Burnsville, MN, along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, along with a host of special friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard Edward Ottney on April 26, 1969 and Hazel (Forde) Ottney Smorstad on Nov. 11, 2008. His wife: Lori Hurlbut Ottney on Oct. 22, 2009. One sister: Donna Ottney in 1960. One brother: Lyle (Bea) Ottney on June 1, 2009. Brothers-in-law: Walter Tomczak and Lawrence Schroeder. Ed and Lori’s cat, Bob.
