Postville Review, Wed., 19 April 1876.
The wife of Nelson Schoolmaker, residing 4 1/2 miles west of Frankville, attempted to commit suicide by cutting her throat last Saturday evening, April 15th. She sent her little girl to a neighbor's on an errand, and during her absence, cut her throat with a razor. She was found a few minutes after, on the bed, on her hands and knees, bleeding very profusely.
The wound was about four inches long and quite deep, severing the wind-pipe about seven eighths off. Dr. Rogers, of Frankville, responded promptly, and all was done that possibly could be to save her life, but no hopes are entertained of her recovery at this writing.
Some years ago she made a similar attempt, but was unsuccessful, making only a slight wound. Mental derangement was the cause. She is the mother of several children.
