William H. Schmidt

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 20, at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia for William H. Schmidt, 72, who passed away June 17 at his home in Castalia. The Rev. Walter Pfeffer, pastor of Zion's, was in charge of the rites; burial was in Pleasant View cemetery.

William Henry Schmidt was born April 26, 1896, the son of August and Louise Herbolt Schmidt. He passed away at his home in Castalia on June 17, 1962 of a heart attack.

He was married to Mable Schultz on June 30, 1917 at the Castalia Lutheran parsonage. To this union were born two children, Cleora (Mrs. Phillip C. Wander) of Castalia and Henry Schmidt of Decorah.

He is survived by his widow, two children, and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by twin brothers who died in infancy, a sister who died at two and one half years of age, and a brother, George, who passed away last year in April.

Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt moved to Castalia from Wadena where Mr. Schmidt was a farmer, oil truck operator, general trucker, and telephone operator until his retirement last year.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia.

Friends and relatives from Oelwein, Arlington, Lansing, Waukon, Postville, Preston, Minnesota, Wadena, Edgewood, Wauconda, Illinois, Decorah, Ossian, Waterloo, Strawberry Point, Floyd, West Union, Clermont and Elgin attended the funeral.
