Another double murder and suicide occurred in Highland township, Winneshiek county, last Thursday, out of jealousy. John S. Hjerland shot and instantly killed his neighbor, Lars Gilbertson, and then went home and fatally stabbed his wife, making 23 gashes in her body. He then went into hiding, and when the sheriff and his posse surrounded the house in which he was concealed, he turned a gun on himself and shot himself through the head.
