Decorah- Arnold L. "Arnie" Sorenson, 59, of Thomasville, Colo., formerly of Decorah, Iowa, died Friday, July 6, 2001, in his home after a sudden illness. Memorial services: 2 p.m. Friday, Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, by the Rev. Susan Debner. There will be no visitation.

Survivors include three brothers, Lester and Elmer, both of Decorah, and Dale of Battlement Mesa, Colo.; and three sisters, Arlene Larson, Edna Jacobson and Marilyn Beard, all of Decorah.

Arnold "Arnie" Sorenson, 59, of Thomasville, Colo., and formerly of Decorah, died suddenly at his home Friday, July 6, 2001.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial services will be held Friday, July 13 at 2 p.m. at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, with Rev. Susan Debner officiating.
Arnold "Arnie" Sorenson was born Jan. 21, 1942 in Winneshiek County, the son of Leonard and Katherine (Hotvedt) Sorenson.
He was baptized and confirmed at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church near Decorah.
He attended grade school in a rural school in Winneshiek County and graduated from Decorah High School in 1960.
During high school, he often worked with his uncle and aunt, Willard and Margaret Sorenson, on their farm near Decorah.
After high school, he worked for JC Penney in Decorah and Escanaba, Mich.
Arnie Sorenson then went to work for Western Electric (also known as Lucent Technologies) and was with them for the next 30 years, except for two years spent in the U.S. Army in Alaska restoring and maintaining telecommunications in the wake of the Alaskan earthquake of 1964.
While with Western Electric, Arnie Sorenson was first based out of Davenport, Iowa and then Pheonix, Ariz., and then for several years in Grand Junction, Colo.
He retired from Western Electric and purchased a resort motel on the Frying Pan River above the Rudi Reservoir in the small town of Thomasville.
After selling his business, Arnie Sorenson had maintained his home near Thomasville and enjoyed a variety of activities and part-time work and, with his faithful dog, "no-no Princess," had divided his time between Colorado and Alaska.
On Friday, July 6, Arnie Sorenson and some friends were having dinner and planning their annual rafting trip down the Colorado River scheduled for the next day. After dinner, Arnie Sorenson became suddenly ill and passed away in the ambulance en route to the hospital.
Survivors include three brothers and three sisters: Lester and Gerry Sorenson of Decorah; Arlene (Mrs. Duane) Larson of Decorah; Elmer and Charlotte Sorenson of Decorah; Edna (Mrs. Harold) Jacobson of rural Decorah; Dale and Connie Sorenson of Battlement Mesa, Colo.; and Marilyn (Mrs. Jay) Beard of rural Decorah.
Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.
Arnold "Arnie" Sorenson was preceded in death by his parents.
