Ossian- Ruth C. Brockman, 87, died early Monday morning in Mahaska County Hospital at Oskaloosa after a short illness. She and her husband, William, owned and operated Brockman Grocery from 1940 to 1960, when he died. She continued to operate the business until retiring in 1968.

Surviving are a son, Bradley of Ossian; a daughter, Mary Lou Welsh of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Burial: church cemetery. Friends may call at Schmitz's.
