Freda May McCracken, 90, of McGregor, Iowa passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2014 at Crossing Rivers Health, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

Freda was born November 28, 1923 to Roy Robert and Louise Christina (Harter) Dickson in rural Decorah, Iowa. She attended Franklin Township No. 9 School and graduated from Waukon High School. She was united in marriage with Wayne McCracken on February 25, 1946 in Waukon, he preceded her in death on August 21, 2001. To this union four children were born, Waneta, Yvonne, Phyllis and Carrol.

Freda worked as a LPN in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Elmhurst, Illinois and the Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She operated the Marquette Sundries Store in Marquette, Iowa from 1970 until 1994. She also helped run the family Standard Oil Station. Freda was the City of Marquette Treasurer from 1970 until 1994 and the City Clerk from 1980 until 1994. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the First Lutheran Church. Freda enjoyed doing genealogy research, playing cards, vegetable gardening, sewing and crocheting.

Freda is survived by her four children, Waneta (Benjamin) Buck of Rochester, Minnesota, Yvonne (James) Brown of Guttenberg, Phyllis (William) Gecho of Fremont, Iowa and Carrol (Laurie) McCracken of Nevada, Iowa; four grandchildren, Christina Barnett, Mary Ellen Gecho and Sean and Jennifer McCracken; four great-grandchildren, Cheyene, Dakota and Trenton Barnett and Thomas Wiley.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wayne, one grandson, William Frank Gecho, Jr and one son-in-law, William Gecho.
A Memorial Service will be on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 11:00 am at the First Lutheran Church in McGregor, Iowa.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 7, 2014 from 10:00 am until the time of services at First Lutheran Church in McGregor, Iowa.

Burial will follow at First Lutheran Cemetery, McGregor, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, family has requested that memorials may be directed to Mar-Mac Rescue Squad.
