Leonard Adolph Schroeder, age 90, of Ossian, Iowa, died Sunday October 5, 2008 at the Ossian Senior Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, Ossian. Public visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Schmitz Funeral Home in Ossian and an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Mr. Schroeder was born November 27, 1917 to Frank and Josephine (Leibold) Schroeder. He married Ramona Caughron in 1951. Mr. Schroeder attended St. Francis DeSales School, Ossian, and served in the infantry during World War II. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a foreman for 37 years, retiring in 1973. He also owned and operated Schroeder's Tavern from 1969 to 1999. He was a volunteer fireman in Ossian for many years and was a member of St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church.

Mr. Schroeder is survived by his wife, Ramona; four daughters, Lynda (Phillip) Wilkerson of Kentucky, Sandra Horsfal of Ossian, Jenny (Dale) Leuenberger of Fort Atkinson, and ZettaLee (Jacob) Gowen of Colorado; three sons, Mark of Ossian, Jess (Lori) of Fort Atkinson, and Timothy of Texas; 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; and a brother Dennis J. (Dorothy) of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 12 brothers and sisters; a son, Michael; and a son-in-law Jon Horsfall.
