A former LuVerne man, Dwight L. Sorensen of Hiawatha, died in his home after a lengthy illness. He was 69.
Funeral service for him was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Lutheran Church at Ossian, IA with military graveside rites by Post 735 of the Ossian American Legion in Hillside Cemetery at Ossian. The Cedar Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Dwight L. Sorensen, son of Harold and Evelyn Johnson Sorensen, was born October 31, 1933, at LuVerne in Kossuth County, IA. He was married to Janice E. Schweinefus on June 7, 1958, in the Little Brown church at Nashua, IA.
Dwight worked in the office at Farmstead Foods for many years, then went with Fidler Office Supply where he worked for three years.
Dwight served with the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church at Cedar Rapids and American Legion Post No. 735 at Hiawatha. His passion was going to auctions and helping his family with their businesses.
Dwight is survived by his wife, Janice, a son and two daughters, Craig and Suzanne Sorensen, Davenport; Shelly and Derrick Sindt, Keystone, IA; Vicki and Tom Peifer, Cedar Rapids. He has seven grandchildren.
Other survivors include a sister, Linda Blass, Pequot Lakes, MN and an aunt, Dorothy Sorensen, Cedar Rapids. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Wayne Sorensen and a granddaughter. This obituary was published in the July 10, 2003, edition of the Algona Upper Des Moines.
