Maxine M. Yarwood, age 79, of Decorah, died Monday morning, August 18, 2014 at her home.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 22, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Melissa Bills officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, August 21 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and on Friday beginning at 10:00 A.M., one hour before the service, at First Lutheran Church.

Maxine Margaret (Jackson) Yarwood was born November 11, 1934 at home in rural Mount Sterling, WI, the daughter of Alfred and Ingeborg (Olson) Jackson. She graduated from Seneca High School in Seneca, WI with the class of 1952.

Maxine was united in marriage to Charles F. Yarwood on April 30, 1960 at Utica Lutheran Church in Mount Sterling, WI. This union was blessed with five children: Marla, Mark, Brian, Eric and Mary.

She was a homemaker in Decorah, raising her family and then worked part time in the lunch room at East Side School. She later worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Barthell Order of Eastern Star Home in Decorah for a number of years, retiring in 2003. Maxine was a member and very active volunteer at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. She enjoyed her Wednesday morning coffee group, liked to read books and the newspaper, keep up with current events, was a Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan, and make Krumkake and bars. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles on October 13, 1983; three sisters: Clarice Peterson, Freda Anderson and Evelyn Beinborn; and two brothers, Jerome Jackson and LaVern Jackson.

Maxine is survived by her five children: Marla (Curtis) Edler of Waterloo, IA, Mark (Corrine) Yarwood of Waterloo, Brian (Wendi Stein) Yarwood of Hinesburg, VT, Eric Yarwood (Aaron Persen) of Omaha, NE and Mary Yarwood of Waterloo; four grandchildren: Cassandra (Kyle) Frost, Kathryn Yarwood, Charles Yarwood and Sophie Yarwood; and three great - grandchildren: Cade, Camden and Corbin Frost.

The family asks for any memorials to be designated to: The Food Pantry at First Lutheran Church, 604 W. Broadway, Decorah, IA 52101 or Barthell Order of Eastern Star Home, 911 Ridgewood Drive, Decorah, IA 52101.
