Duane Boyer, age 39, of St. Lucas, died at his home, on Tuesday, August 12, 2014.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 16, 2014, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Nick March presiding.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday, August 15, 2014, at St. Luke’s Historical Chapel in St. Lucas, IA. There will be a prayer service and rosary at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night. There will also be visitation after 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be given to the St. Lucas Historical Society, Box 277, St. Lucas, IA 52166.

Duane Adam Boyer was born on September 24, 1974, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Dennis and Maxine (Hageman) Boyer. He attended St. Luke’s Catholic School, and graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1993. Duane was a man of many talents. Growing up he would spend time at his Grandma Boyer’s house learning how to bake and sew. He helped many people in the community by mowing lawns, caring for them and running numerous errands for them. He began working at The White House Supper Club in Saint Lucas at the age of 15.

Duane attended Loras College in Dubuque and graduated in 1997 with a degree in Theology. He then attended seminary in Baltimore Maryland for one year before moving back to Saint Lucas. He worked in Decorah at Spectrum Industries and Maurices and returned full time to the White House Supper Club in 2003.

Duane loved his community and worked very hard with the preservation of the history of the community. He was a founding member of the Saint Lucas Historical Society and served as the Vice President. Duane took pride in the Historical Society and hosted and catered many events from Christmas Reflections, Octoberfest and Class Reunions. Every Christmas he would decorate the St. Luke’s Church so beautifully. He took great care in the Nativity that he restored for the parish.

For over 24 years Duane has been a part of the White House Supper Club. From serving, bartending to cooking he was able to fill any role. Many people would come to the White House just to see Duane. He made everyone there feel special from the customers to his coworkers. He was great at “one liners” and was sure to make anyone laugh. He was always ready to sing for any occasion.

Duane could do anything he set his mind to. He remodeled his house by himself and added many special touches to make it his home. He helped many friends, family and community members by catering and decorating events and made sure everything was just perfect and took the time to make everyone feel welcome.

Duane was a member of the Saint Lucas Historical Society, St. Luke’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Duane gave of himself endlessly. He was truly one of a kind and enjoyed making people feel good. Duane was selfless and put his heart and soul into everything he did. He touched the lives of everyone he met. He is loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Duane is survived by his father, Dennis C. Boyer, St. Lucas, IA. Two brothers: Dennis F. Boyer Jr, and wife Bonnie, Calmar, IA; and Kevin Boyer, St. Lucas, IA. One sister: Joann Boyer and fiancé John Svendsen, St. Lucas, IA. Two nieces: Briana and Britlyn Boyer. Aunts and Uncles: Elaine Heying, Calmar, IA; Frank (Judy) Hageman, Jr., Decorah, IA; Alvin (Deb) Hageman, Ossian, IA; Dennis Hageman, Ossian, IA; Reuben (Zandra) Hageman, Calmar, IA; Vernon Hageman, Calmar, IA; Neil Hageman, Calmar, IA; Martin (Cindy) Hageman, Fort Atkinson, IA; Arlene Boyer, Dubuque, IA; Connie Woodson, New Hampton, IA; and many cousins.

Duane was preceded in death by his mother: Maxine Boyer on January 14, 2005. His grandparents: Frank and Ida (Ehler) Hageman, Sr. and Adam and Margaret (Ott) Boyer. Aunts and Uncles: Sister Margaret Boyer FSPA, Ray (Evelyn) Boyer, Leonard, Andrew, Larry and Gene Boyer, Flavia (Norbert) Lechtenberg, and Larry Heying.
