Mae Walter, 78, of Cresco and formerly of Burr Oak, died Thursday, May 20, 2004 at the Cresco Care Center following a short illness.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 24 at 11 a.m. at Burr Oak Lutheran Church, Burr Oak, with Rev. Hans Floan officiating.

Organist is Kathy Tollefsrud, and hymn selections include "Amazing Grace," "On Eagle’s Wings’ and "How Great Thou Art."

Casketbearers are Erlin Walter, Daryl Dehning, Wayne Walter, Ron Dehning, Alan Dehning and Lowell Dehning.

Honorary Casketbearers are all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Interment is in Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Decorah, is handling arrangements.

Mae Audrey Walter was born Jan. 9, 1926, the daughter of Marvin and Lora (Dehning) Sande near Decorah.

She attended school in Decorah, and married Arthur Walter May 20, 1944.

Together they farmed near Burr Oak and Bluffton until 1976, when they sold the farm and moved to Decorah.

Mae Walter worked at Wapsie Produce and then moved to Cresco in 1993 to be near her family.

She was a member of the Burr Oak Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one daughter: Rita Olsen and husband Ronald and one son: Fred Walter and wife Julie, all of Cresco; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Mae Walter was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Walter in 1986; a son, Ricky Walter in 1980; a daughter, Joclyn King in 1991 and a half-brother, Bernell Dehning.
