Edna was born December 11, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of Richard & Henriette Ruhlin. She worked as a personal secretary for several different companies, including H.M. Harper Co. in Morton Grove, IL and Montgomery Ward in Rosemead, California and Chicago, Illinois. She took pride in her job. She lived in Chicago until she married Amos Hove on January 12, 1958. They moved to Rosemead, California where they lived for several years. Edna and Amos enjoyed ballroom dancing and ended up getting filmed on the Lawrence Welk Show. She was an avid fan of the show and hoped to catch a glimpse of her and Amos dancing. They eventually moved to a small farm in rural Princeton, Illinois where they had several ponies and some livestock. She was always by her husband’s side when they were showing their ponies and taking them to various parades. You could always count on Edna having her camera in hand. After Amos passed away in September 1984, she then enjoyed sewing, reading, and working on crafts. Edna was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Princeton. She was a resident at Liberty Village Nursing Home. Edna celebrated her 100th birthday with her family this past December 2013.
Edna is survived by a step-daughter, Patricia (Joe) Weis of Decorah; a step-son, Lydell Hove of Princeton, IL, a step-daughter-in-law, Sandra Hove of Decorah; eight step-grandchildren: Marc (Sandi) Weis, Julie (Michael) Lisowski, Steve (Nancy) Weis, Peggy (Monty) Kuhn, Brenda (Scott) Houg, Lori (Chuck) Hultine, Eric (Carrie) Hove and Beth Puebla; and seventeen step great-grandchildren: Prescott and Lexi Weis, Pamela Lisowski, Derek and Marissa Weis, Jamey and Jordan Kuhn, Logan, Hailey, and Lynsey Houg, Todd and Shane Hultine, Nicholas, Drew and Olivia Hove, Quintin and Ian Puebla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Amos; one step-son, Gary Hove; one step-daughter-in-law, Lois Hove; and one step-grandson, Bryan Hove.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 316 South Church Street, Princeton, IL 61356 or Peace Lutheran Church, 745 County St, Ridgeway, IA 52165.
