Elgin Echo, Thursday, 15 October 1908.

Emil Holzer, janitor of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, at Ossian, fell from the roof of the church Monday noon of last week, fracturing the base of his skull and breaking his neck, besides sustaining internal injuries. He died from the effects of his injuries a few minutes after the accident happened. Holzer was filling the crevices with mortar at the base of the steeple and to support himself and materials for the work was using a swinging scaffold which gave way and precipitated his fall. Deceased was a brother in law of Tim Thoman, of our city, who in company with other members of the family drove to Ossian and attended the funeral. Mr. Holzer is survived by his widow and five children.
