Alice Gertrude (Barth) Nydegger Andreae, was born January 20, 1904, at Burr Oak, IA, the daughter of Willilam and Hattie (Van Pelt) Barth. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Locust, Iowa. Alice passed away Sunday, September 19, 2010, following a short illness, at the Elkader Care Center.
On February 19, 1924, Alice was united in marriage William Nydegger and to this union four children were born. William was killed in a tractor accident in 1944. On September 1, 1948, she married Oscar Andreae, and they farmed near Volga until retirement. Oscar passed away in October 1981.
Alice was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved to garden, tend to her flowers, do puzzles, and cook – especially pies and play Bingo. She was a life time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Volga and active in the women’s group.
She is survived by her children, Dorothy Seybert, Darlene Wilker, William (Luella) Nydegger; son-in-law, Harold Christeleit; eleven grand-children; nineteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ethel Barth of Colorado; numerous nieces nephews and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, William and Oscar; one daughter, Norma Christeleit; son-in-laws, Robert Seybert and William Wilker; one great-granddaughter, Tammy Christeleit; sisters, Mary, Emma, Margaret and brothers, James, Chester, Ralph, Willie, Edgar, Glenn, Clifford and George.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Volga.
Visitation: 4 to 7 pm September 21, 2010 at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and 1 hour before service time at the church on Wednesday
Funeral Service: 11:00 am September 22, 2010 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Volga, Iowa
Interment: 2 pm September 22, 2010 at Elgin City Cemetery, Elgin, Iowa
