DIED

STEPHENSON--In Orleans, Winnesheik county, Iowa, March 24, 1871, Wm Stephenson, in the 81st year of his age.

Mr. Stephenson was born in England, came to this country in early life and located in Vermont, afterwards removing to Clinton county, N.Y. In 1855 he emigrated to Iowa and made his home among the early pioneers of Orleans township, where he has since lived. Mr. S., was possessed of a clear intellect and large experience, joined to a more than ordinary share of physical and mental vigor, which enabled him to fill with credit the position he long occupied as one of our leading, active, and most influential men.

The whole community unite in heartfelt sympathy with his bereaved family, and mourn the loss of one who was a kind and trustworthy friend, an obliging neighbor, and estimable citizen, and an honest man.

He filled up the measure of his days with usefulness, and came peacefully to his end.
