Ronald “Ron” Ramsey, age 59, of Decorah, IA, died on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Doug Bryce presiding. Burial will be in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ossian, IA.
Friends may call from: 3:00 – 7:00 Wednesday, at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, and also after 9:30 a.m., Thursday morning at the church.
Ronald Dean “Ron” Ramsey was born on March 15, 1954, the son of Raymond and LaVerne (Brynsaas) Ramsey in Decorah, IA. Ron was baptized and confirmed at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1972. At the age of 14, Ron begin working at the Red Lantern washing dishes on College Drive. In his younger days, he worked for area gas stations in Decorah. He was married to Roxanne Nelson in 1975, they later divorced. Ron worked as the service manager at Ronningen Ford and Olsgaard Motors. He owned and operated Mechanics Unlimited in Decorah. Ron was then the service manager for 18 years at the local Ford dealer. In Feb. 2012, Ron started at Norplex in Postville and has been working there until he was diagnosed with cancer in May 2013. While at Norplex he made many new and wonderful friends. In 1995, Ron met Ardy Stockman they have been together working, laughing and loving each other for the last 18 years. Ron enjoyed racing, fishing and hunting with the Glenwood deer hunters. Some of Ron's special times were the trips to Elkhart Lake, WI., his trip to California right after high school, his friends such as Craig Sailer, and the Dodge Hilton; 4Ever Racing Dennis Hovey, Bob Grainger his mentor, Roland's Scrambler, riding motorcycle, and bowling. He loved his wife Ardy, his children and grandchildren. Ron had such wonderful friends and extended family that helped him check off so many items on his bucket list. Marrying the love of his life, and dancing with the love of his life until he couldn't dance any longer.
Ron is survived by wife: Ardith Stockman, Decorah, IA. His children: Rachel (Ramsey) & Charlie Walker, Nevada, IA, and Ryan Ramsey, Ridgeway, IA, Melissa (Stockman) Davis, Iowa City, IA; and McKenzie Stockman, Ridgeway, IA. Grandchildren: Dexter, Eli and Myka Walker, Aiden and Hunter Davis. His mother: LaVerne Ramsey, Decorah, IA. Two sisters: Rosie Ramsey, Decorah, IA, and Beverly Nelson, Postville, IA. Brother: David Ramsey, Decorah, IA. Ardith’s loving family: Lyla Molkken, Clermont, IA; Norman Osmundson, Marion, IA; Gaylord and Barb Osmundson, Cedar Rapids, IA; and Dave and Diane Lensing, Postville, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his father: Raymond Ramsey on December 10, 2009. Grandparents: Edwin & Leona Brynsaas and Gilbert & Olga Ramsey. Least not forget their family dog, Coach Ramsey. Ron will be missed by many.
