Myrtle Beatrice Quandahl, 85, of Decorah, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a short illness.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 25, at 2 p.m. at the French & Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, with the Rev. Tim Tostengard officiating.
Al Sensor was the organist. The congregation sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."
Casket bearers were Ward Ask, Loren Jacobson, Brendan Jacobson, Steven Jirak, Jim Sutton and Bill Hall. Interment was at Hauge Cemetery in rural Decorah. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Myrtle (Wold) Quandahl was born Feb. 27, 1913, in rural Winneshiek County, the daughter of Theodore and Annie (Bassol) Wold. She was baptized at Hesper and on May 22, 1927, was confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Ole Glesne.
Myrtle attended country school in Winneshiek County, completing the eight grade.
She was united in marriage with Levi Quandahl Feb. 19, 1935, by the Rev. Ole Glesne, at the Decorah Lutheran Church parsonage. To this union one daughter was born.
They farmed in rural Winneshiek County, where Myrtle spent her life as a farmwife and housewife.
Levi died July 3, 1977. Myrtle lived in Decorah her whole life, until over a year ago, when she moved to Cedar Rapids, where her daughter lives.
Myrtle enjoyed crafts, knitting and crocheting, cooking and baking, and playing cards, especially rummy.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Lou and Rodney Jacobson of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Ronda Swails of Cedar Rapids and Loren Jacobson of Brandon; four great-grandchildren, Nicole and Heather Swails of Cedar Rapids, and Brendan and Lauren "Lizzy" Jacobson of Brandon; two sisters, Idella Onsager of Decorah and Doris Tyler of Davenport; one brother, John "Bert" Wold of Decorah; and one sister-in-law, Leona Wold of LeRoy, Minn.
Myrtle Quandahl was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Levi; two brothers, Arthur and Theodore; and one sister, Eldora.
