Janeen Elizabeth (Lick) Iverson was born on August 4, 1935 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Hattie (Langaas) Lick. She was baptized at Hauge Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, the congregation of her immigrant ancestors. Janeen’s family moved a number of times until settling in Faribault, Minnesota, where she was confirmed at First English Lutheran Church and graduated from the Faribault public schools. In the Decorah area, Janeen and her family have been members of the Hauge, Decorah, and Canoe Ridge Lutheran congregations.

Janeen was united in marriage to Vern L. Iverson of Decorah, the son of Melvin and Vida Iverson, at Hauge on December 29, 1956. They had six children: Scott Alan, Jay Eric, Cynthia Kay, Steven Dennis, Karl Dana, and Krista Ann.

Janeen attended the Fairview Hospital nursing school in Minneapolis and earned her R.N. degree. Her nursing career included positions in the birth unit at Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah, service as director of nurses at Decorah’s Eastern Star and Aase Haugen nursing homes, and a nursing position at the Spring Grove, Minnesota hospital. After their retirements, Janeen and Vern both worked for some years in transportation for the North Winneshiek school.

Janeen enjoyed many pastimes. She traveled extensively with her family. She was an avid gardener and also enjoyed assisting Vern with their apple orchard. She was a collector of various antiques, including student pencil boxes and hobnail glassware. Janeen enjoyed cooking, and enjoyed it most when cooking for gatherings of family. She also enjoyed reading and was a volunteer at the Decorah Public Library. Janeen was rarely without a book in hand, unless she was holding a broom or vacuum.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Elaine in childhood, her brother Robert, and her infant son Jay.

Janeen is survived by Vern; her remaining children with their partners: Scott Iverson and Becky Burland of Decorah, IA, Cindy and Terry McInroy of Minneapolis, MN, Steve and Dona Iverson of Cresco, IA, Karl Iverson and Karen Helgeson of Lenora, MN, and Krista Moore of St. Paul, MN; a niece Christine and nephew Jay; eleven grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Janeen’s family would like to thank the Mayo Clinic system for their care to her and to our family through the years. Memorial gifts may be sent to Mayo Clinic in Janeen’s name.
